Nipissing Forest Resources Management Mtg.

Representatives from the Province, Nipissing Forest Resources Management and Tembec Lumber presented a ten year plan for logging in the area. The meeting was well attended by interested residents.

One of the major concerns presented by the residents dealt with safety along Hawthorne Dr. As well, some people were concerned with the damage the logging trucks would do to the road and single lane bridge. Representatives of the Province indicated one of the values of such logging plans and public meetings was the opportunity it presents to ensure the local concerns are covered within the restrictions of the plan. They feel these concerns can be ameliorated with appropriate controls forestrymtgto be added to the management plan.

Residents were encouraged to send their concerns in writing by June 23, 2008 to:

Ministry of Natural Resources

Ministry of Natural Resources indicated a future meeting would take place in late August or early September to view any revisions to the plan taking into consideration the feedback from residents.

  1. Dear Mr. Thauvette,

I am a U.S. citizen, but a Restoule landowner and summer resident of Restoule for the last 30 years. My wife and I humbly appreciate being able to share this piece of heaven with our Canadian friends. We love Restoule both heart and soul.

I have a question you might help me with. Who monitors and holds the lumber companies responsible for following a management plan? Is a “management plan” a contract, or just the lumber companies intention? Is this the job of the forester? How many foresters are there in the Parry Sound District?

Sorry, I guess that was four questions.

    Thanks, and respectfully,

    David Cox

  2. David, you can send email directly to Mr. Thauvette at this address: Guylaine.thauvette@Ontario.ca

He will be able to answer your questions, however, I do believe the Ministry of Natural Resources representative at the meeting indicated the ‘plan’ was a contract and was to be enforced by staff of the Ministry of Natural Resources.

Please don’t rely on my interpretation. Please contact Mr. Thauvette directly. Have a great day.
