Below is a notice received from Jean Mohr, Secretary of the Local Services Board and Local Roads Board
Notice of Public Meeting Re: Draft Nipissing Forest 2009-2019 Forest
Management Plan.
The Local Services Board of Restoule and Patterson Township Local Roads Board would like to advise property owners in our area of a public meeting.
The Nipissing Forest Resource Management Inc.is hosting a public
information meeting to review the draft proposed harvest operation in and
around Restoule area (Patterson and Pringle Townships). These areas being Odorizzi Road and Durrell Lake area.Meeting Date: April 23, 2008 from 4 pm to 8 pm
Place of Meeting: Restoule Community Centre
There will be a 15 minute presentation at 5 pm and at 7 pm.The approximate location of the proposed new primary road construction
extends west from the end of Hawthorne Drive which is located in the village
of Restoule.
Our concerns centre around the ‘Safety of our Citizens’.
The logging program is an issue of log trucks travelling over ’single lane
bridge’ that conncects Hwy 534 and Hawthorne Drive for 10 years.
Possible damage done to the bridge would limit response for Fire and
Emergency Vehicles.
There are petitions to sign ‘Opposing this Proposal’ located at Mill Bay
Marine, Restoule Post Office, and Gerry’s General Store.
We encourage concerned citizens to attend the April 23rd meeting to learn
more information and to express their opinion.
> The Local Services Board of Restoule and Patterson Township Local Roads Board are opposed to the logging proposal that uses any route through the Village of Restoule.

I am only a summer resident in the area, and I have just learned about the situation. I would like to support a petition that would oppose the proposal. Is there any way I can do this via internet or email? Could I email Scott and have him sign by proxy? I agree with Grant, plan B needs to be looked at carefully, I also agree with the real safety issues the trucks would present, not to mention noise debris and dust (they tend to move over to the shoulder and stir things up)
They are considering access through Odressi’s old logging road which is accessed from Hwy. 522.
If the logging company is successfully blocked from using the road through Restoule, what alternative route might they use? I think it is important to give thought to this, as I doubt they would simply accept no access to the timber – we need to be sure that their “plan B” isn’t worse.
Anybody experience behaviour of this kind?
Is it true that logging companies often disrespect the areas they work in? I heard that they often log areas adjacent to the ones that they have permits to log in. Who polices the logging companies and who holds them accountable if they overstep their boundries?
